Buying a used aerial work platform: checklist
Updated on October 29, 2026
Aerial work platforms are about safety at height. Besides the price, inspection records and the condition of safety-relevant parts matter most.
Does the platform suit the job?
- Working height and outreach
- Platform load and basket size
- Drive: electric for indoors, diesel or hybrid for outdoors
- Terrain: four-wheel drive, outriggers, permitted slope
- Transport dimensions and weight
Inspection records
In Germany, mobile elevating work platforms must be inspected regularly by a qualified person. Ask to see the records of the periodic inspections, the log book and the operating manual.
Check the condition
- Hydraulics: no leaks, smooth movements
- Emergency lowering and emergency stop working
- Scissor arms, booms and pins: play and cracks
- Battery (electric lifts) and charger
- Controls in the basket and on the ground
