Selling a used forklift: process and documents
Updated on October 29, 2026
A used forklift sells best when buyers can quickly see what they get. This overview shows which details matter and how to prepare the sale.
Details buyers expect
Companies buying forklifts compare the key specifications first. The more complete the listing, the more precisely they can bid – and the fewer questions you get.
- Manufacturer, model, year and operating hours
- Drive (electric, diesel, LPG) and load capacity
- Lift height, mast type (e.g. duplex, triplex) and attachments such as a side shift
- Electric forklifts: battery year and condition, charger included?
- Known defects – stated openly, they build trust
Prepare the documents
In Germany, industrial trucks must be inspected regularly by a competent person (DGUV regulation 68, usually once a year). A current inspection record, the service book and the operating manual make the decision easier for buyers.
Invoices for major repairs, for example to the mast, hydraulics or drive, also help.
Take good photos
Photograph the forklift in daylight from all sides, plus the hour meter, type plate, forks, mast, tyres and – for electric forklifts – the battery. Better to show damage than to hide it.
How selling works on Machinooo
You list the forklift for free and enter an internal price expectation that no bidder sees. After a short review by the Machinooo team, verified companies place sealed bids. You decide which bid to accept – or none.
Your company name stays hidden, even after acceptance. The Machinooo team coordinates the sale with the buyer.
General information – not legal or tax advice. Requirements may differ by country and use.
